Mamata Banerjee has become the first woman CM of West Bengal. She took oath as eighth Chief Minister of Bengal after the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Left Front’s outgoing Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s 34 year long rule came to an end at a ceremonial oath reception at Raj Bhavan, also becoming the fourteenth woman Chief Minister in India.
37 cabinet ministers also took oath along with her. Celebrations could be seen at her residence and thousands of people live, common man as well as the activists of Trinamool Congress had gathered outside her home at Harish Chatterjee Street in south Kolkata, to congratulate didi on this historic win. This was the big news people of Bengal had waited for over the years.
One could listen the sounds of “Maa Maati Manusher Jai” (meaning the victory of mother, motherland and people and ‘Mamata Banerjee Zindabad!’.

Mamata started her political career with the Indian National Congress. All India Trinamool Congress is the party she founded in 1997.
Mamta Banerjee is also a painter and her paintings were on display recently on an exhibition. The paintings fetched over Rs.2 crore, of which the painting Banglar Maa sold for Rs. 12 lakhs.
