Sao Joao Feast of St John the Baptist is held every year on 24th June.

Sao Joao feast is a celebration of Goa in the parish of Catholic Church on June 24th. Different games, like traditional boat game is organized every year at Siolim on the occasion of Sao Joao celebration.

Youngsters collect gifts, liquor and fruits from people and the prayers are performed to any water reservoir and put the collected gift items there. Even the young soon to be married girls and brides to get blessed with good children also throw seasonal fruit, flowers and vegetables in the well to fulfill their wishes.

Cultural Significance - Sao Joao Feast of St John the Baptist



  • It originated when Mother Mary (with Jesus) pay a visit to Elizabeth St John the Baptist’s mother, he being in the womb of mother.  This episode made him bounded with pleasure.

  • St John the Baptist later baptize and christened Jesus Christ into the Jordan river.
