Patnitop is relatively lesser known but is a very beautiful and peaceful hill station. It is a plateau and carries all the sprinkled beauty of dense green pine, deodar, cedar forests, and green grassy meadows. It is a plateau at a pleasant height of 3500 meters. It is an ideal gateway from the busy life and offers exclusive tourist packages, especially for honeymoon couples. Surrounded by Pirpanjal ranges, it remains snow-clad all through the winters. It is in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir State. It is the closest winter resort to Jammu.
How to reach
The nearest airport is Jammu, which is situated about 112 kms away. All major airlines such as GoAir, Air Deccan, Indian Airlines, Jetlite, Kingfisher Airlines, and Spice Jet have flights to Jammu. Buses ply frequently from Jammu to Patnitop.
The nearest railhead is Jammu and is connected to all major cities of India. Many special trains are also run in the Peak season. Overnight journey from Delhi takes you to Jammu and it is another 5-8 hours journey to Patnitop.
By the regular bus service from the nearby major places like Jammu, Katra, or Udhampur it takes about 3 to 5 hours by well-connected roads. Many standard and deluxe bus services are operated by government as well as private agencies. National Highway 1A connects Patnitop to these major cities.
Places to see
Some major places for sightseeing in and around Patnitop can be cited as Jammu, Katra and the famous Vaishno Devi where the famous shrine of Vaishno Devi rests in the Trikuta mountains. There is also Kud and Sanasar the paragliding hubs, Gourikund, Sudmahadev, and Mantali. Patnitop has several nice picnic spots and also a six-hole golf course. Bahu Fort and Temple, Raghunath Temple, and Buddha Amarnath Temple are two major religious places to visit. Kishtwar is famous for growing superior quality saffron. Mubarak Mandi Palace is an ancient heritage dating back to 1824. Sudh Mahadev is famous for its archaeology and also as a pilgrimage place.
Paragliding is a chief tourist attraction in Patnitop. The paragliding is conducted by Patnitop development Authority and it is a unique experience in the company of a pilot and where you take off at Natha Top and land at Kud. Trekking comes second in popularity and the trek across the picturesque mountain slopes is a delight. There are innumerable freshwater springs and an 11 km long trek to Shiva Garh is a major long trek. Among other fascinating tourists activities camping, abseiling or caving and rope climbing, rock climbing, and scenic nature walks are some premier attractions and things to do during your stay at Patnitop.

Best Time to Visit
Patnitop is frequented by tourists all round the year but then the summer months are the best time to visit. Autumn months of September and October are also quite pleasant. If the traveler/tourist is an adventure lover and seeks to engage in snow and ice games, then winter months from December to March is best suited.
Patnitop being a hill station has a pleasant climate all through the year. Winters are however extremely cold with plenty of snowfall.
